Janna Gurvich’s photography is rooted in resilience, gratitude, and an unshakable ability to see beauty where others might not.
Born in the Soviet Union, Janna grew up in a world defined by uncertainty, scarcity, and quiet endurance. Life at the end of the Soviet era was marked by hardship—poverty, limitations, and discrimination were part of daily reality. Yet even then, she developed something that no system could suppress: a deep sensitivity to light, texture, and human expression. When she immigrated to the United States, she carried with her little more than determination and hope. Like many immigrants, she and her husband worked tirelessly to build a new life from the ground up— raising two children,
establishing stability in a foreign land, and supporting loved ones back home. The years demanded strength, discipline, and sacrifice.
But through it all, Janna never stopped noticing beauty.
She found it in ordinary moments—in the way light falls across a kitchen table, in the lines of a weathered hand, in the quiet dignity of strangers, in the overlooked poetry of everyday objects. Her perspective is shaped by contrast: having lived through limitation, she recognizes abundance in the smallest details.
Now based in Portland, Oregon, Janna spends her days immersed in the extraordinary natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. From misty forests to dramatic coastlines, from mountain light to urban stillness, she approaches every scene with wonder. Oregon’s shifting skies and textures have become both her playground and her canvas.
An avid traveler, Janna continues to explore the world with curiosity and openness. Every destination offers her new colors, faces, and stories to capture. For her, photography is not simply about composition—it is about connection. It is about honoring presence.
Above all, Janna is devoted to her family. They are her foundation and her joy. Yet her heart extends far beyond her home—she approaches every person she photographs with empathy, respect, and genuine warmth. Her lens does not judge; it reveals.
